How to use medicinal herbs. How to make fertilizer for the garden from grass: preparation methods

Hello everyone!

Lately I have very often come across information that everything can be cured with medications.

What are they much more effective than tablets, So what modern medicine doesn't understand anything about it.

What to look for salvation from various diseases needed in recipes traditional healers, in old books on folk medicine, where herbs are one of the main components of any product.

Many people really believe that herbal treatment is simple and very useful.

I don’t entirely agree with such a philistine statement and therefore decided to write this post about how to treat with herbs correctly and safely.

From this article you will learn:

How to be treated with herbs correctly and safely - the secrets of herbal therapy

I graduated from medical university, pharmaceutical faculty.

And one of the most important and difficult subjects that we studied on the course was pharmacognosy - the science of medicinal plants.

We studied this subject for five years, and passing an exam or getting a test in it was more difficult than in any chemistry or pharmacology.

How we taught these herbs, only those who studied there know.

We not only memorized the names of plants and their areas of application, but also worked with a microscope, made chemical reactions, determining the chemical composition of the raw material and its structure, they examined the roots and leaves in cross-section, sketched it all, memorized and crammed it.

In the spring we went to procure medicinal raw materials and analyzed them using modern methods research and, of course, explored its full application.

I still remember a huge table filled with Petri dishes with dry medicinal raw materials, some whole, some crushed.

From this abundance, you had to choose what they would call you and prove that it was exactly the right collection or that plant, using physical and chemical means.

Therefore, I can with great confidence refute the false statement that medicinal plants are the preserve of the knowledge of herbalist grandmothers or traditional healers. Official medicine knows no less, but even more about how to treat them and how it should be done correctly.

It's hard for me to even imagine how much latest research are held annually for medicinal plants, this science never stands still.

In modern ecology, plants change their composition, which means their scope of application may change or new contraindications may appear, and Newest technologies make it possible to discover new medicinal properties of known or unfamiliar plants.

Therefore, you should not rely so much on old folk remedies, but it is best to buy a modern directory of medicinal plants, which will indicate their chemical composition, medicinal properties and methods of use, as well as contraindications, and be sure to use it correctly.

Treatment with medicinal herbs - important rules and tips

To begin with, I would like to voice several features of treatment with medicinal herbs, which few people pay attention to:

If you hear somewhere a story about how a person completely cured himself with an infusion of oats or chamomile flowers from cancer in the fourth stage, consider that a miracle of healing simply happened to him, mostly thanks to his faith in himself, in God, in life, into this medicinal plant, or maybe he did something else that you don't know about.

Try to cure muscular dystrophy, ALS, multiple sclerosis, meningitis...

  • Herbal treatment is not as safe as many people think it is.

Medicinal raw materials can cause severe allergies, poisoning, and pathological processes in the body, negatively affect the development of the fetus in pregnant women, potency in men, and much, much more.

Therefore, before drinking any “harmless” weed, be sure to familiarize yourself with the possible side effects which it can give and its contraindications for use.

Illiterately composed medicinal fees, herbs collected in environmentally polluted areas, as well as taking herbs simultaneously with medications.

Always remember what time we live in, and plants, like people, absorb everything from the environment.

  • A number of medicinal herbs have a strictly defined safe dose of use.

Roughly speaking, there are herbs that, in excess dosage, turn into poison.

  • Medicinal herbs contain “harmful chemicals”

Well, I already mentioned this in point 2, in medicinal raw materials, in addition to useful microelements, there are harmful ones (salts of heavy metals). They are especially abundant in those that were collected along highways and railways and in other environmentally unfavorable places.

  • Medicinal herbs should not be used for a long time and continuously.

Some herbs are addictive, others long-term use, depress the nervous system, cause an overdose, which is accompanied negative consequences Therefore, the course of herbal treatment is individual.

For example, mint tea, with constant use, greatly lowers blood pressure, “safe” chamomile, with long-term use, interferes with the absorption of iron, wormwood can provoke a violation nervous system, cause convulsions and fainting.

Therefore, by “healing” with herbs from one disease, you can easily acquire another.

How to use herbs correctly and safely?

So, remember the basic rules - how to treat with herbs:

  • In order for the grass to retain all the useful components, it is very important to collect it according to all the rules.

Taking into account the place of collection, time of collection, as well as the conditions of its preparation and drying. You can read how to do this correctly in any good reference book of medicinal plants.

It is best to collect herbs yourself, following all the rules for harvesting, drying and storage.

Or buy medicinal herbs from time-tested manufacturers and in specialized pharmacies, where you will be provided with all product quality certificates, including documents for radiological control.

I do not advise anyone to buy herbs at markets unknown people, no one knows exactly what may be in them, where they were collected!

  • You need to brew it in a glass container in a water bath.

This rule is important to follow because plants are able to interact with various chemical components and accumulate them in themselves, so boiling in metal or plastic containers can be dangerous.

  • To prepare effective medicine from medicinal herbs medicine, you need to follow certain rules.

Medicinal raw materials are usually used in the form water infusions and decoctions or alcohol tinctures.

Infusions are prepared from soft plant materials (flowers, leaves, herbs), decoctions from hard plant materials (roots, bark, dried fruits)

Typically, infusions and decoctions are prepared in a ratio of 1:10

  • How to prepare a medicinal infusion?

Prepare the raw materials, take 1 tablespoon of dry crushed herbs. Pour into a glass hot water and boil in a water bath for 15 minutes. Then remove from heat and cool for 45 minutes. We filter.

  • How to prepare a herbal decoction?

Prepare the raw materials, 1 tbsp. l for 1 glass of water, pour hot water and boil in a water bath for 30 minutes. Remove from heat and cool for 10 minutes. Strain while hot.

The only exception is that it is prepared according to special rules.

There is no need to increase or decrease the boiling and infusion time.

This is the optimal ratio in which everything active ingredients are released from medicinal raw materials into an infusion or decoction, are not modified, are not inactivated, but act with optimal benefit for the body.

Bring the strained infusion or decoction to 100 ml with water and take it in the indicated dosage.

The shelf life of water infusions and decoctions is no more than three days in the refrigerator

Crushed medicinal raw materials are poured with 70% alcohol in a ratio of 1:10, infused for 30 days in a dark, cool place, hermetically sealed, then filtered and stored in a cool place. dark place up to 6 months.

  • It is necessary to take infusions and decoctions in accordance with the indicated dosage.
  • When treating with herbs, they should not be consumed simultaneously with medicines, alcohol, fatty and spicy foods.

Are herbs in bags useful?

I have an ambivalent attitude towards them.

On the one hand, this is convenient, but on the other, the technology for preparing infusions and decoctions is completely broken.

And if you consider that they are made like tea bags (low-quality raw materials after sifting), then it is better to buy herbs in bulk for treatment.

Well, and also, I would like to voice the point of how to treat with herbs correctly.

When you come across some kind of herbal treatment recommendation or prescription herbal collection Before you start using it, open a good reference book of medicinal plants (where the full chemical composition, structure, properties, etc. are indicated) and read:

  • composition and contraindications of this medicinal raw material,
  • pay attention to its dosage,
  • component compatibility
  • methods of application.

And only after that, decide whether to use this fee or not.

Some herbs today are credited with such incredible effects that you are amazed!!!

Therefore, before you believe in another myth that some herb or herb can cure, for example, alcoholism, read official studies, look at its chemical composition, what is in this herb that can really help solve this problem and draw your own conclusions.

Well, and finally, I really love medicinal products, I collect and prepare them myself.

At home I always have thyme, mint, oregano and many others.

I am convinced that when correct use, for certain diseases, they can have an effective therapeutic and cosmetic effect, restore strength and energy.

Therefore, be sure to use medicinal herbs, but do it correctly, and then herbal medicine will bring real benefits to you and your body.

Often medicinal herbs have best action on the body if used raw. But there are many other ways to prepare and use them.

Tea or infusion

It is good to prepare infusions from herbs, leaves, flowers. Take 1 teaspoon of dry or fresh herb, put it in a cup and fill it with water. It is better to boil water and let it cool for a couple of minutes, and then brew the herb. Let the tea brew under the lid for 10-15 minutes, then strain. You need to drink tea as quickly as possible because useful material evaporate quickly.

Brew herbal teas in a separate teapot or mug. Do not use the container in which you brew regular tea, as tannins, astringent substances from the tea leaves, remain on its walls, which can ruin the purity of the herbal drink.

The infusion can be stored in the refrigerator in a closed container for no more than 3 days, but it is better to prepare fresh each time.

Decoction

Digestion is suitable for plants that contain poorly soluble beneficial substances - wood, roots and stems. Prepare the decoction in a water bath for 20-30 minutes. Strain while hot and add boiled water to get the initial volume of liquid. Decoctions can be stored in the refrigerator in a closed container for no more than 3 days. Warm up before use.

Due to the craze for tea bags, the tea strainer remains out of use. But it is useful for straining infusions and decoctions, since it does not allow particles of leaves and flowers to get into the herbal drink.

Cold hood

To prepare it, the herb is placed in cold boiled water and left overnight, then filtered and refrigerated. Before use cold infusion needs to be heated This is the method of extraction medicinal properties helps in the case of mucus-containing plants (marshmallow, flax seed).

Oil hood

Grind dry or fresh herbs and place in oil (sunflower, olive, nut - for internal use or almond, grape seed - for external use). Let it brew for 5 days, gently boil in a steam bath for an hour and squeeze through a sieve. Pour the oil into a dark glass bottle and close tightly. Store in a cool, dark place.

To make herbal teas, keep a mortar on hand. This tool will do an excellent job of grinding seeds and hard plant stems, and will quickly turn dry leaves and flowers into powder.

Raw juices

Many herbs lend themselves well to squeezing, for example, nettle. However, juices cannot be stored for a long time; they should be consumed immediately (drink or make a compress).

Tinctures

Tinctures or tinctures are liquid extracts of herbs prepared in diluted ethyl alcohol. Compared to infusions and decoctions, tinctures have an unlimited shelf life. Place 100 g of herb in a dark glass bottle and fill it with, for example, fruit vodka so that the herb is completely covered. After two weeks of infusion in a dark, warm place, the tincture will be ready. The tincture can be strained and used externally and internal use(no more than 1 teaspoon at a time).

Ointments and mixtures for patches

Plants and their extracts can be made into ointments and mixtures for plasters by rubbing or boiling them with soft fats, such as lard. Such fat is of great value as a base for ointments and compresses. Add to heated pork fat fresh herbs(for example, calendula) and fry them for about 10 minutes. Two handfuls of herbs and a jar of fat will be enough. Leave the mixture to set overnight and the next day gently heat it again until melted. Pour the fat through a fine sieve into clean jars and store in a dark place. This ointment is a wonderful remedy for various ailments: rubbed into the chest when coughing, treats varicose veins, etc.

Sachet

These are dry herbs or mixtures of herbs, sewn into bags made of natural fabrics, such as linen. They smell nice and can help with insomnia, nervous disorders and many other ailments.

If you put the sachet in a closet or dresser drawer, it can become a natural fragrance for your linen or clothes.

Each gardener weeds out a huge number of weeds during the season. If you add to this the grass that is mowed along the fences and around the house, you will get a very significant amount of plant mass. It is unwise to throw it away, because after proper preparation the grass turns into an excellent organic fertilizer. Let's consider its preparation.

Method of preparing fertilizer for irrigation
To make fertilizer from grass, you will need a container. A plastic barrel works best, but large buckets can also be used. Do not use metal containers.

Chopped parts of weeds and mowed grass are poured into the barrel. All green contents are filled with water. The more plant components, the thicker the composition will be.

The remains of the plants must be fermented. To speed up the process, nitrogen components are added to the barrel. They can be of natural origin, for example, the contents of a toilet. They will need from one to three liters. You can simply add a spoonful of nitrogen fertilizer. Urea or humate fertilizer will do.

The top of the barrel needs to be closed. If it does not have a lid, then polyethylene is used, which is tied around the top. The preparation time for the first batch is about two weeks.

Advantages of grass feeding

The first advantage of such a fertilizer is its availability. Plant waste is available on every farm. These are not only parts of weeds, but also grass and tops that are not used for food. Parts of plants affected by diseases can be stored there. An oxygen-free and aggressive environment will not leave a single pathogen. Carrion and other fruits that need to be disposed of will also go there.

How to improve productivity?

We are constantly receiving letters in which amateur gardeners are worried that due to the cold summer this year there will be a poor harvest of potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers, and other vegetables. Last year we published TIPS on this matter. But unfortunately, many did not listen, but some still applied. Here is a report from our reader, we would like to recommend plant growth biostimulants that will help increase the yield by up to 50-70%.

Since liquid fertilizer is prepared, it is better suited for garden crops. They absorb it faster and give a response.

Making an Organic and Nutritious Herbal Infusion

The composition during fermentation receives alkaline reaction. If the soil on the site is acidic, then regular fertilizing will quickly get rid of this reaction. But this fact should also be taken into account when watering; if crops prefer an acidic soil reaction, for example, sorrel, then such fertilizer will not be as useful as for other garden plants.

The resulting liquid can be used to water the beds before planting. As a result, the seedlings will take root better and the seeds will germinate faster.

When is the fertilizer ready?

Readiness is determined by appearance and smell. When the contents of the barrel begin to smell like manure and acquire a similar marsh color, and its surface begins to bubble from the release of carbon dioxide, the composition is ready for use. There is no need to open the lid during fermentation. Otherwise, the ammonia formed will evaporate rather than dissolve. It is this substance that gives the fertilizer an alkaline reaction.

The result is nitrogen fertilizer from grass with high efficiency. It can also be applied in the fall. Unlike mineral options, this fertilizing retains nitrogen well in the soil, preventing it from being washed out.

How to use?

After fermentation, a universal mixture is obtained that can be used as a main fertilizer in the spring or as an additional summer nutritional support. To obtain the required concentration, the fermented liquid is diluted with water in a ratio of approximately 1:1, but the specific parameters depend on the density of the composition.

The volume of feeding depends on the plants themselves that require fertilizer and their nitrogen needs. For cucumbers, one bucket of the mixture diluted with water per bush will be enough, but for strawberries you need no more than a couple of liters per bush. It is worth remembering that excess nitrogen fertilization leads to active growth of tops. The result is low fruiting and active development of pests. Plant fertilization must be balanced.

Universal nutrition - herbal infusion

In August, when the production of the feeding composition is in full swing, it can be used to water areas free of vegetation. They will begin to prepare for the next season. Watering plants directly with fertilizer should only be done in the second half of autumn, when they have shed their leaves and entered an inactive phase. Inappropriate watering with nitrogen fertilizer in August can lead to active growth of branches. Young shoots will not have time to get stronger before winter and will most likely freeze.

Composting is the process of rotting grass

Composting is another way to make fertilizer from grass. Unlike the previous option, the result is not liquid, but humus. To do this, a trench is dug. A small layer of turf soil is placed at the bottom. Dried parts of plants are placed on top of it in layers, then a layer of manure with food waste. As a result, such a compost heap contains approximately 60% greens and 20% each of soil and manure with waste.

The process of overheating lasts about a year and a half. Such fertilizer cannot be called quick. This is very different from the previous version. But the end result is a very valuable component of any soil - black soil or humus. It not only feeds the soil, but also improves its structure.

The compost pile requires some attention. It is necessary to stir it occasionally with a pitchfork so that the contents do not sour. In particularly dry weather, compost requires water. If it is in a deep hole, then this need is less, but if the heap is significantly elevated above the soil level, it will need to be watered periodically.

Two main options are considered with which you can obtain effective fertilizer from unnecessary plant waste on the site. If you use specific herbs to obtain fertilizing liquid, you can get a certain effect.

Nettle infusion fertilizes all crops well and protects cruciferous crops from flea flea damage.

Comfrey contains a large number of potassium and phosphorus. Using it for preparation allows you to obtain a composition to eliminate the deficiency of these elements in the soil.

And a little about the author’s secrets

Have you ever experienced unbearable joint pain? And you know firsthand what it is:

  • inability to move easily and comfortably;
  • discomfort when going up and down stairs;
  • unpleasant crunching, clicking not of your own accord;
  • pain during or after exercise;

Today, every second gardener allocates space for a lawn on his plot. For some, it occupies a small area, while others sow a vast area with lawn grass. Both of them are faced with the need to regularly mow the lawn grass, but not everyone knows how to make good use of the “garbage” remaining after this procedure. But for mown lawn grass you can find very valuable and very diverse uses in any garden plot.
The green crushed mass, which remains at my disposal after mowing the lawn, is an excellent material for preparing early ripening. For these purposes, in the far corner of my plot there is a spacious box made from pieces of old slate, where in one season I prepare excellent organic fertilizer for all my cultivated plants. The large amount of lawn grass remaining after spring mowing procedures is enough to fill this compost bin to the top. In order for the process of overheating the grass to take place effectively, I lay it in layers 20-30 cm high, which I sprinkle with soil (10-15 cm), and then spill it generously with a solution of some EM preparation. Most often I use Baikal EM-1, consuming 100 ml for every 10 liters of water. When laying the grass and soil, I do not compact it too much, otherwise the EM preparation will not work without air access. In dry weather, I moisten the compost with water, and if there are prolonged rains, I cover the box with film so that the contents do not sour. By autumn with the help beneficial bacteria contained in such biological preparations, I get excellent quality compost, which I apply to garden beds and to the tree trunks of garden plants.
There are two small greenhouses on my site. Instead of one capacious greenhouse, I installed two small ones, since cucumbers and tomatoes need completely different microclimates during the growth period, and, being planted separately from each other, they bear fruit much better. In the greenhouse where the cucumbers grow, at the beginning of their flowering, I install a 50-liter barrel, which I fill halfway with mowed lawn grass, and then fill it to the top with water. I add to the contents a liter jar of wood ash and 6 tbsp. the same "Baikal". I mix everything and leave it to ferment. The carbon dioxide released during this process contributes to the massive formation of female inflorescences on cucumber bushes, which in turn produce a large amount of ovary. After the fermentation process in the barrel is over, I use the resulting infusion for feeding: I dilute 0.5 liters of infusion in a bucket of water and pour it under the root of cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, etc. 1 liter of this drug. And then I fill the emptied barrel with a new portion of lawn grass and again leave it in the “cucumber” greenhouse for fermentation.
Green matter chopped with a trimmer is excellent for mulching. However, if you mulch the soil with a thick layer of freshly cut lawn grass, after a while it becomes strongly compressed after watering and begins to rot, and there is no need to talk about the benefits of such mulching. Therefore, after mowing the lawn, I first dry the grass in the sun for a couple of days, and then spread it under vegetable crops, in the flower garden and in the trunk circles of shrubs and young trees. Such mulch leaves the soil moist, loose, eliminates the need for weeding and weed removal, and when rotting saturates the soil with humic compounds, which are so necessary for any plant to thrive. normal height and fruiting. As it rots, I update the mulch from the mown grass with a new portion. Separately, I would like to mention that in lawn grass, during the process of decay, Bacillus subtilis is released, which suppresses the activity of various pathogenic microorganisms found in the soil, so mulching with such material is an excellent prevention of fungal plant diseases.
In the second half of summer and early autumn, when fertilizing plants with nitrogen fertilizers is no longer required, there is no need for mulching, and regular lawn mowing continues, I find another use for the mowed grass. Green mass I dry it completely, rake it and put it dry in plastic bags. I open them in late autumn, when I begin to prepare heat-loving crops for wintering - grapes, clematis, roses, actinidia, etc. For them I build a reliable shelter that protects the shoots and root system not only from freezing, but also from damping off. To do this, I first prepare the plants themselves - I prune them, treat them with fungicides, remove the lashes from the supports and lay them on the ground, and then I cover them headlong with dry lawn grass and cover them with thick plastic film, tightly securing its ends to the ground with improvised materials (work on I make sure to build a shelter in dry weather). The “filling” of such a shelter, consisting of a dry fine fraction of lawn grass, has excellent thermal insulation properties, protecting plants in winter period from unfavorable conditions.
